Our coffee

Our major sources of coffee.

Kaffa coffee — South West Ethiopia
KaffaSouth West Ethiopia

Kaffa coffee

Coffee takes its name from Kaffa, and this is where our plantation stands. A heavy-bodied cup with a wine-like aftertaste, grown under the forest canopy of the UNESCO biosphere reserve.

Bench Sheko coffee — Forest grown

Bench Sheko coffee

The second half of our farm. Dense shade, late ripening and hand collection give a clean, sweet cup with a long finish — naturals and washed lots both.

Sidamo coffee — 1700–1950 masl

Sidamo coffee

Soil, climate, altitude, rainfall and temperature combine to make this region the largest supplier of washed coffee in the country. Greenish-grey, medium-sized beans known for their sweetness.

Gujji coffee — 1500–2100 masl
Gujji1500–2100 masl

Gujji coffee

Snug against Sidamo and Yirgacheffe in the Oromia zone. Sweetly tart — sweet lemon candy and floral tea through to green melon and rose. Bright and winey, yet balanced.

Yirgacheffe coffee — 1700–2200 masl

Yirgacheffe coffee

Where the highest quality arabica is grown. Intensity, sweet flavour and aroma give this predominantly berry-profile bean a rich, smooth and clean taste.

History of coffee

It started with a goat herder.

Ethiopia is the undisputed historic and geographic homeland of Coffea arabica. It started with a young goat herder named Kaldi, who noticed his goats acting strangely and jumping with extraordinary energy.

Upon investigating, he discovered they were eating small berries from a wild shrub. Kaldi tasted the berries himself, felt instantly elated and energised, and knew he had discovered something truly special.

About Moyica

Five years in the nursery and plantation before the first export.

The company roots back to 2017 with the establishment of the nursery site. For over five years, prior to export, the focus was entirely on nurturing the plantation using 100% organic fertiliser.

The company owns a well-organised nursery site and the plantation is held to standard. The collection of berries focuses seriously on quality, and the drying process always follows the standard set by the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority. Store management and storage facilities adhere to international standards.
